Special Olympics Indiana Washington Township
Washington Township's Special Olympic program is a unified program for students with cognitive disabilities. Athletes are paired with non-disabled partners. Approximately 70 athletes participate, 35 student partner/volunteers, and a host of parent volunteers. In 2007, we won 40 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 13 bronze medals as well as numerous ribbons at State Games. We provide the Special Olympic experience without regard to economic status.
Special Olympics Indiana Washington Township (SOINWT) encourages athletes and partners to develop their skills in a fun, no pressure, caring environment. They learn and laugh together.
Our participants come from schools all over the Township: elementary, middle and high school levels. The friendships that are formed, the understanding gained, and the modeling of good citizenship by older students for the younger ones impact the whole SOINWT Community in a positive and long lasting way.
Participation in SOINWT sports gives the students the opportunity to travel: National Games in other states and Summer Games in Terre Haute.
Let me win.
But if I cannot win,
Let me be brave
In the attempt.
